About SORORITY LIFE
our MISSION:
For over 100 years, sorority life has been a part of Penn, contributing to its long-standing history of empowering the women on this campus. While each woman’s journey in Greek Life is deeply personal, we strive to unite all sororities on the idea that, while chapters may differ, each is fundamentally founded on the same principles: sisterhood, service, leadership, and commitment to being individuals held to high standards of womanhood. There are over 1,500 sorority women on our campus and almost 4 million worldwide, and when united, we are unstoppable. ★
About Sorority LIfe:
The National Panhellenic Council, founded in 1902 and was recorded at Penn since as early as 1925, is an umbrella organization for twenty-six international women’s fraternities and sororities. Each member group is autonomous as a Greek-letter society of collegiate members and alumnae members. Members are represented in over 620 university campuses in the United States and Canada. There are over 5,300 alumnae associations making up over 2.5 million sorority women in the world. Our local chapter of the Panhellenic Council serves as a governering body over the 8 NPC sororities we have at Penn.
Sororities exist because they:
-
Provide a good democratic social experience
-
Create a home away from home during the college years
-
Provide leadership opportunities
-
Give value beyond college years
-
Provide ample networking opportunity
-
Create, through their ideals, an ever-widening circle of service beyond the membership
-
Develop the individual’s potential through leadership opportunities and group effort
-
Allow one to get involved in their community
-
Fill the need of belonging
-
Develop friendships that will last long past the college years
